Mobile made of wood, paper, cyanotype, found objects and stones
Short film shot in Mazaugues; South of France

The work Verblassen embodies the search for home and far away. In the last year Montalbetti visited different places that form an important part of her families identity. East Germany - Warsaw and Southern France. The found objects and photographs that contribute an important part to the balance of the mobile originate from these places. The passages of text visible on the fragments of paper are taken from Montalbetti's conversations with her grandmother.

At the end of World War II, Montalbetti's great-grandmother fled her hometown near Belgrade to East Germany, where she gave birth to her grandmother four years later. Her grandmother was raised in the GDR and moved to Warsaw as a young mother, leaving the country 10 years later for faraway Tunisia and eventually returning to united Germany.

By entering an intense exchange with her grandmother and questioning the inner restlessness in her family, Montalbetti succeeds in creating a work that embodies the dance between wanderlust and home, past and future. A balance between two static states that embody desires and yearnings. Between these two desires emerges the vitality, life and identity of each.

Growing Interactive installation made of papers & stones on sand

Do you have a memory you would like to share? A memory of your grandparents or a piece of homesickness or wanderlust that lives within you? Choose a piece of paper and a stone and use the typewriter to write down your thoughts. Then place your paper in the landscape of sand and weigh it down with the stone.  Over the next few days, the memory will become part of the mobile and fade into space.
